Waterjet Cutting Services

Our waterjet cutting services excel in processing extremely thick metals, such as steel, with unparalleled precision and accuracy. This technology sets a high standard in the manufacturing industry, capable of effortlessly slicing through metals up to 300 mm thick. The key to its effectiveness lies in its ability to maintain a high-quality finish, even when dealing with substantial material thicknesses.

At the heart of waterjet cutting is the use of a high-pressure stream of water. This stream, when combined with abrasive materials like garnet, becomes a powerful cutting tool. The abrasives add a sanding effect to the water’s cutting power, enabling the waterjet to slice through metal with extraordinary accuracy. This method is particularly effective for intricate and detailed cutting requirements, where precision is paramount.

The versatility of waterjet cutting extends beyond just thick metals. It is adept at handling a variety of materials, including composites, stones, and ceramics, making it a go-to choice for diverse industrial applications. The absence of heat-induced stress or thermal distortion during the cutting process is a significant advantage, particularly for materials sensitive to high temperatures.

One of the standout features of waterjet cutting is its minimal kerf, or cut width, which allows for more precise cuts and less material waste. This precision is complemented by the smooth, clean edges that the waterjet leaves, reducing the need for secondary finishing processes.

Additionally, waterjet cutting is environmentally friendly. It does not produce hazardous materials or significant waste, and the water used can often be recycled and reused. The absence of harmful byproducts or emissions during the cutting process makes it a sustainable choice in the manufacturing sector.

The process is highly customizable, with adjustable pressure settings and nozzle sizes, allowing for tailored cutting solutions based on the specific requirements of each project. Whether it’s creating complex geometric shapes, detailed patterns, or simply making straight cuts in thick materials, waterjet cutting offers a level of flexibility and precision that is hard to match with other cutting methods.

In summary, waterjet cutting services combine efficiency, precision, and environmental consciousness, making them an invaluable asset in modern manufacturing. From thick steel plates to intricate designs on delicate materials, waterjet cutting provides a solution that is both precise and versatile.

Waterjet cutting is a distinctive material cutting method, setting itself apart from other techniques by being a non-thermal process. This means it does not utilize heat for cutting, making it especially suitable for materials sensitive to high temperatures. Instead, waterjet cutting is a mechanical process where material is removed through physical contact and erosion.

The effectiveness of waterjet cutting lies in the incredible speed of the water jet. It’s supersonic, meaning the water is expelled from the nozzle faster than the speed of sound. However, water alone isn’t sufficient to cut a wide range of materials. This is where abrasives, typically crushed garnet – the same material that gives sandpaper its roughness – come into play.

By employing high pressures, these abrasive particles are propelled at great speeds to erode away the material bit by bit. Typical pressures for waterjet cutting hover around 380 MPa, but newer systems can utilize pressures as high as 620 MPa.

One of the key advantages of this gradual material removal is the minimal heat generation. Any potential rise in temperature is further mitigated by the cooling effect of the water. This ensures that the waterjet maintains a straight trajectory, providing a consistently straight cut across the entire thickness of the material.

  • No heat-affected zone – Typically, thermal cutting methods leave a HAZ. This hardens the edges of the cut. Waterjet cutting, on the other hand, provides a result without hardening, distorting or warping the material.
  • Cuts almost any material – Although our waterjet cutting service focuses mainly on metal cutting, it can actually be used for pretty much anything. Some examples include rubber, foam, plastics, glass and of course metal.
  • Outstanding precision – The tolerances are close to +/-0.15 mm. Our manufacturing partners can produce very accurate results using their CNC machinery.
  • Great cutting quality – Waterjet cutting can provide excellent results that don’t need additional finishing processes. The quality, however, depends on the cutting speed. Slower speed leaves a smoother finish but this, in turn, raises the costs.
  • Environmental impact – This is a growing concern with many manufacturing methods. Waterjet cutting helps to reduce hazardous waste compared to other cutting possibilities. There are no dangerous gasses or fumes created as a by-product.
